“No artist is pleased. [There is] no satisfaction whatever at any time. There is only a queer divine dissatisfaction, a blessed unrest that keeps us marching…”
Martha Graham
Perfectionism, once again, almost stopped me from posting a song this week. Fortunately I remembered those brilliant words from Martha Graham.
So true!
And somehow it makes me feel better to know I’m not the only one who feels continuously dissatisfied with my creations!
I recorded this song on Monday. Listened to it. And immediately trashed it!
It’s already a stretch for me to play handpan and sing at the same time. And this song is pretty fast with almost constant 1/16 notes. And that REALLY let’s you see the inconsistencies in time. Which showed me just how far I have to go to get my timing solid enough for that “divine dissatisfaction” to be satisfied… at least on that point.
I thought about recording a different song, but got distracted by my birthday ceremony. And when I got home from that ceremony on Thursday morning I felt more open to the possibility that this was the song for this week. So I recorded it again.
The timing is a little better. Still a long way to go. But, in the end, I’m happy with the way this turned out.
So here’s A Song a Week #14 – With Your Love. Enjoy!
Leave a comment below to let me know how bad the timing is on this!
Enjoy!
